What is Edit PDF, and when should you use it?
Edit PDF opens your document in the BrieflyGo editor, where you can add text, annotate and mark up pages, then export the result — without installing PDF software.
It is best for correcting a detail before sending, marking up a draft, and adding notes for a counterparty. Quick use does not require an account, although the current anonymous daily allowance may apply.

Limits and checks before you use the result
- A PDF is a fixed layout, not a word processor document. Text does not reflow, so replacing a long paragraph with a longer one will not push the rest of the page down — plan edits around the space available.
- Editing original body text in place depends on how the PDF was produced. Documents built from images or unusual embedded fonts may only accept new text placed on top.
- Covering text with a box is not redaction. The underlying text remains in the file and can still be extracted — use a redaction tool when information has to be gone.
- Work in the editor is not stored unless you are signed in. Export the edited PDF before closing the tab.

Can I edit a PDF for free without Acrobat?
Yes. This runs in the browser on desktop and mobile with no installation, no licence and no watermark on the exported file. An account is optional and only adds saving and history.
Why can I not edit the existing text like in Word?
Because a PDF stores a fixed page layout rather than a flowing document. Characters are placed at coordinates, so there are no paragraphs to reflow. Small in-place changes and added text work well; substantial rewriting is better done in the source document, or in the BrieflyGo editor with the text you want placed deliberately.
Will my edits look the same for the person I send it to?
Yes. Everything you add is written into the exported PDF rather than kept as a separate layer, so it renders identically in other readers.
Can I hide confidential text by drawing a box over it?
It hides it visually only. The text is still in the file and can be copied out or extracted by a script. Anything that genuinely must not leave has to be removed with redaction, or cut by extracting only the pages you want to share.
Can I edit a scanned PDF?
You can add text and annotations on top of it. The scan itself is an image, so the original words are not editable until the document has been through OCR.
Does editing degrade the document quality?
No. Pages are not re-rendered or recompressed, so text stays selectable and images keep their resolution. Only what you add is new.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is handed straight to the BrieflyGo editor in the same browser tab, so the document stays on your device while you work on it. The flip side is that nothing is saved for you either: if you are not signed in, closing the tab loses the work, so export the finished PDF before you leave.
Is it really free, and is there a catch?
It is free with no daily cap, no signup and no watermark added to your document. An account is optional and only buys persistence — saved files, history, and sending a document out for signature. Nothing here is time-limited or card-gated.
Do I need to install anything?
