Known limitations
- 1If you spent time outside Australia as a permanent resident in the 12 months before applying and you held an interdependent visa, you may count that time only if you provide evidence of a close and continuing association with Australia. Without that evidence, processing of your application will be delayed.
- 2If you submit documents in a language other than English, they must be accompanied by English translations from an accredited translator. If you do not provide these translations, processing of your application will be delayed.
- 3You must provide identity documents for yourself and any children included in the application. If you do not provide these documents, processing of your application will be delayed.
- 4Your photo must meet strict requirements: no more than 6 months old, full face, good quality, colour, neutral or light grey background, unedited, and passport-sized (35–40mm wide, 45–50mm high) with the face 32–36mm from chin to crown. Glasses and head coverings are only allowed under specific conditions.
- 5If you are a New Zealand citizen holding a Special Category Visa (SCV), you do not need to provide a penal clearance certificate from New Zealand – the Department will request it directly. However, you must provide penal clearance certificates from any other country where you have lived for 90 days or more since turning 18, regardless of how long you have resided in Australia.
